Cooperstown Eagle Scout with AIDS remembered
At a press conference in Oneonta 20 years ago this week, a Boy Scout from Cooperstown announced, "My name is Henry Nicols and I have AIDS." Many in the room -- those who hadn't been briefed -- were shocked. In 1991 rumors were rampant about how AIDS was transmitted, and people were afraid, sometimes abusive, because the disease was almost always fatal.
